Example EU Digital Product Passport

Trailmark textile rucksack

A sample product passport for a recycled-polyester day pack, structured around ESPR passport identifiers, traceability, compliance, sustainability, repair, and end-of-life information.

Dark textile rucksack on an outdoor surface

Legal status: Textile-specific DPP data fields are still set through ESPR delegated acts. This example combines mandatory ESPR passport building blocks with textile-relevant data a rucksack producer should prepare.

Passport Overview

The product passport is linked to a unique product identifier and a visible data carrier. Access levels can differ for consumers, repairers, recyclers, customs, market surveillance authorities, and the manufacturer.

Sustainability Performance

Performance values should be backed by test reports, chain-of-custody documents, and a defined calculation method.

Durability 20,000 rub abrasion rating

Shell fabric tested to Martindale method. Seam slippage and zip cycle tests passed for normal day-pack use.

Repairability Replaceable pulls and buckles

Spare buckle set, zipper-pull cord, and patch kit available for at least 7 years after last EU sale.

Reusability Designed for resale cleaning

Care label supports low-temperature washing, air drying, and inspection of structural seams before resale.

Recycled content 92% of textile fabric mass

Calculated from shell, lining, and webbing only. Hardware and coating masses excluded from this percentage.

Recyclability Mono-polyester textile body

Mechanical recycling is improved by removable hardware and printed disassembly guidance for recyclers.

Environmental footprint 8.2 kg CO2e cradle-to-gate

Illustrative estimate using supplier energy data, recycled polyester feedstock, and inbound freight to EU warehouse.

Compliance Evidence

Evidence records are listed for auditability. Some documents are public summaries; technical files and supplier declarations may require authorised access.

Declarations and reports Conformity file available

ESPR passport record, REACH supplier declarations, recycled-content certificate, restricted-substance test report, durability test report, and packaging data sheet.

Market placement EU release: 2026-05-14

Importer of record: Trailmark EU GmbH. Country of origin declared as Viet Nam.

Packaging FSC paper hang tag

Shipping polybag contains 80% recycled LDPE and is marked for store take-back where available.

Instructions Digital and label-based

Care, repair, safe use, cleaning, warranty, and end-of-life guidance remain accessible from the passport URL.

Consumer and professional access rights Public data supports buying, care, repair, reuse, and recycling decisions

Supplier names beyond tier 1, commercial prices, and full laboratory PDFs are restricted to authorised business partners or authorities where justified.

Use, Repair And End Of Life

Lifecycle guidance is written for the people who will keep the rucksack in use: owners, repair shops, reuse operators, and textile recyclers.

  1. Care Wash only when needed. Sponge clean first; machine wash cold in a wash bag; air dry; do not tumble dry or bleach.
  2. Repair Replace buckles with 20 mm acetal parts, patch shell fabric with polyester repair tape, and replace zipper pulls with 3 mm cord.
  3. Reuse For resale, inspect shoulder-strap bar tacks, base seams, zipper teeth, and coating delamination. Clean before transfer.
  4. Recycling Remove metal zipper pulls and detachable buckles before textile recycling. Sort body as polyester-rich technical textile.
